Can i feed ants to my fish

In conclusion, i wouldnt recommend ants in particular, but i seriously doubt it will bring any ill effects, and any insects you feed gutload them. I do this kind of thing a lot. Youve never been in a rainforest have you?

Ants are constantly getting washed into the water by torrential rainfall,it is also quite common to have ant colonys in the soft dirt in river and creek banks. Ants are a VERY common food source for fish as is anything that washes into the water. A sidenote regarding earthworms Be very careful that the ones you use are not exposed to pesticides.

Almost all lawns are treated. I'll pickup big earthworms at the bait shop. Not too expensive either I noticed whole earthworms are usually devoured by one fish and ends up being a waste. Along with everything else thats covering the forest floor, true. I dont know if ants are more common than other insects still.. I would doubt it, since like i say they follow scent trails, and will try to evade such disasters much more effectively than most other insects.

If something goes wrong, the ants pack up and leave, expose a larval chamber if you have the chance and watch the ants move a thousand larva to a new spot in less than a minute. To be fair, you could justify feeding just about anything that lives in the rainforest by saying "it gets washed in".

Just my 2 cents though. In other areas, they would be much less common. How many ants do i think the fish in my area have eaten? In any case,ants [the small black ones]would be a food item for sure,take from this thread what you will,I know for a fact that there was no harm done to any of my fish by eating ants.

I agree for the most part as the statements suggest. Their everywhere, in the bed, on the walls! I wake up in the night to feel one crawling on me!!!

I'm talkin about the normal ants you see, the small black ones, not the red and poisonous ones. Not sure.. Good question though.. The black ones can still bite though.. It would be bad if they got bit. I wouldn't recommend it.

It just doesn't sound right. I brush ants into my pond all the time. The goldfish pretty much ignore them, but my mosquito fish love them. They also like aphids, flies, the occasional grub or caterpiller, small crickets and grasshoppers, and they even go after the bees and wasps that come to the pond for water. Run outside! The worms are out and waiting for you to scoop them up. Larger fish will eat them whole. Dice them up before feeding to the smaller fish. What happens when summer is over?
